Biotin
Dose rate 10 milligrams (equivilent to 1/2 gram Biotin 2.0%). Biotin a B group vitamin also known as vitamin H, is important in the formation of keratin in the hoof. Adequate biotin has been shown in trial work to reduce the incidence of laminitus and other causes of lameness in dairy cows. Biotin is synthesized within the intestine of the dairy cow, under normal NZ grazing conditions biotin deficiency should not occur, however where a large proportion of the diet is supplemented with higher energy, lower fibre feeds, biotin synthesis can be an issue.
